History

Founded in 1976, Gwava Group (formerly Avrio RMS Group) began as a custom software developer doing business as RMS Technology Solutions Inc. Over the last several decades we have expanded our focus a number of times to meet the fluid demands of the information technology marketplace and today Gwava Group’s experience in software, servers, storage, wired and wireless networking all comes together to serve municipalities and organizations with wide-area surveillance needs.

Thousands of PODSS have been deployed in dozens of cities across the country and have been used to protect high profile events like the Super Bowl, The Democratic National Convention, the Republican National Convention and the Presidential Inauguration.

During the summer of 2003 in Chicago, there was an outcry to lower violent crime and murders. Police officials knew they needed to disrupt the activities of gangs and drug dealers. The technology for the job needed to be: Portable since crime does move, Overt so its mere presence would deter crime and Digital to take advantage of emerging technologies in the IP world; and so the PODSS® were born. Gwava Group worked with the local police department to create the nation’s first pole mounted wireless surveillance cameras. This deployment was a culmination of the various expertise developed over the last few decades in software, systems integration, servers, storage and networking. A combination of point-to-point, multi-point and mesh networking technologies were used to wirelessly connect hundreds of cameras and distribute the IP video to police stations and squad cars throughout the city.

As the pioneers in this space, we became very comfortable with the art of overcoming new challenges, the result has been a cutting edge crime-fighting tool for law enforcement agencies and we’re proud to say that since its inception the city has witnessed a 25% reduction in murders.
